Records break as Pakistan seal emphatic win

Pakistan claimed a historic victory over Sri Lanka on Day 5 of the third and final test of the 3-match series to occupy third position in the test rankings.

Shan Masood and Younus Khan came out to bat: the victory within grasp. Both batsmen, having scored their centuries, began the day with the intention of scoring runs at a faster pace. Shan Masood tried to hit the ball out of the park, but was undone by the spin of Kaushal. Masood departed on 125 with Pakistan requiring another 127 runs.

The captain himself joined Younus Khan at the crease. Misbah played second fiddle to the set Younus Khan who piled on runs with great confidence. Attacking the loose balls and playing with a solid bat, Younus Khan played out one of the finest knocks of his career. Sri Lanka could not break through the defence of either batsman. Despite posting a mammoth total of 377 and finding two early breakthroughs, Sri Lanka could not cross the line and Pakistan won the match with 7 wickets to spare.

Both teams shook hands to promote the essence of sportsmanship and appreciate the cricket played in the three test matches. Along with the winning six of the match, Misbah also completed 4000 runs. Younus Khan was named man of the match for his unbeaten 171. Yasir Shah was deservedly declared the man of the series. Pakistan have defeated Sri Lanka in a test-series after 10 years of constant struggle. The first ODI between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will be played on the 11th of July.
