Army clinch National Basketball title


ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army clinched the title of the 53rd National Basketball Championship 2014 for the Chairman POF Gold Cup, after brushing aside PAF 74-48 in the final played at POF Sports Complex on Monday. Army maintained their supremacy in all the four quarters of the final. The soldiers took 17-7 lead in the first quarter, they doubled their lead in the second while the third quarter was also one-sided affair, before they finished off PAF in the fourth and last quarter to land title with a massive 30 points difference. Atif of Army was declared the best player of the championship. Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain and Federal Minister for SAFRON Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Balouch were the chief guests of the concluding ceremony. Rana Tanveer gave away winners’ trophy to Army while Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir awarded medals to the players. Pakistan Basketball Federation president M Asif said that numerous sports events were held at POF Sports Complex due to keen interest of Chairman POF Board for the promotion of sports. Organising secretary of the event Col (r) Inam Ullah Khan, Additional Secretary MoDP Maj Gen Raza M Khan, DG Army Sports Board Brig Ghulam Jilani, office bearers of basketball federation, senior officers of POF along with their families and a large number of spectators witnessed the final.
