LAHORE - As many as six matches were decided in the 21st National Rugby Sevens Championship which began here at DHA rugby ground. The event is being hosted by Higher Education Commission (HEC) in collaboration with University of Central Punjab (UCP) under the supervision of Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU). Superb rugby was seen by a large number of spectators. HEC assistant director Irfan Sheeraz and UCP director sports M Arshad Sattar were chief guests on the occasion while PRU president Fawzi Khawaja, Development coach Shakeel Ahmad and all senior national team players were also there. At the end of the first day, Balochistan, Police, HEC and Punjab qualified for the semifinals. In the first match, Punjab edged out Balochistan 15-7. From Punjab, Fahad scored two while Amir Sohail scored one try while from Balochistan, Gul Muhammad scored one. In the second match, HEC defeated Police 12-5; in the third match, Punjab thrashed Fata 24-5; in fourth match, HEC thumped KPK 34-0; Balochistan beat Fata 15-0 in fifth match while in the sixth and last match of the day, Police crushed KPK 38-0. Today (Sunday), semifinals and finals will be played.–Staff Reporter
