PESHAWAR Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will resist any move made for changing the already decided venue for 31st National Games scheduled to begin in Peshawar from December 25-31. Certainly, we will resist and thats why we appeal to the President and Prime Minister not to entertain such a plan, as it will not be accepted and be considered an injustice with us, said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain while speaking at prize distribution ceremony of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Games at Qayyum Sports Complex. He maintained that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was capable enough to provide security to players and officials of the National Games. Thus, no need to shift the scheduled games from the province on the pretext of poor security arrangements, he added. We see a plan to change venue of the National Games. But such move will prove a futile exercise he remarked. Besides others, Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah, Secretary Information Azmat Hanif Orakzai, Director Sports Mir Bashar, Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association, Zulfiqar Butt, officials of sports associations and large number of players and spectators were present on the occasion. There would have been no Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Games, had we not ensured proper security arrangements, he questioned, adding despite the ongoing terrorism, we successfully organised the games and the province can hold any mega sport event in a befitting manner. The government would provide all out support to the organising committee of the upcoming National Games, because sports helped in promoting peace, which was need of the hour, he pleaded. About terrorism in the region, Mian Iftikhar Hussain said Lets stop blame game. Pakistan, Afghanistan and United States must share intelligence reports and act promptly, if they want to overcome terrorism. Terrorism, he said, could only be eliminated if all the three main players act jointly. About terrorism in the province and Fata, he said that provincial government could not totally eliminate terrorism but surely reduced its intensity to a great extent. Speaking on the occasion, Syed Aqil Shah said that the successful conduct of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Games had proved that the security situation had improved and they were capable to hold the upcoming National Games in Peshawar. He informed that National Boxing Championship has also kicked-off with more than 70 players across the country contesting for the title. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Games, he said was a preparatory exercise for the forthcoming National Games. He said that he was in contact with the officials and sports ministers of other provinces who assured their full participation in the National Games.
