Irfan, Sajjad guide Wapda to title win

LAHORE - Aamer Sajjad’s unbeaten 65 and M Irfan’s four-wicket haul guided Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) to crushing eight-wicket victory over Hyderabad Hawks in the President's Silver Cup One-Day final played here at the Gaddafi Stadium Sunday.  Put in to bat first, Hyderabad were reduced to 31-5 with 17-year old debutant Irfan being the wrecker-in-chief. The slide continued and only two Hyderabad batsmen crossed 15 as they were bowled out for meager 117 runs. Left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar, who claimed figures of 1 for 20, finished as the tournament's top wicket-taker with 14 victims at an average of 13.78.
Mir Ali struck twice in as many overs to leave Wapda at 23 for 2 in the chase, before Aamer Sajjad assumed the charge. He raised his second successive fifty and added 65 for the third wicket to steer Wapda to the title with 135 balls to spare.
BRIEF SCORES:
WAPDA: 121-2 (Sajjad 65*, Mir Ali 2-19)
HYDERABAD HAWKS; 117 (Awais 32, Irfan 4-12).
