Aisam enters mixed doubles semifinals

Lahore - Pakistan tennis ace Aisamul Haq Qureshi partnering with Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova has entered the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament mixes doubles after beating Marcin Matkowski of Poland and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia.

The Pakistan-Kazakhstan duo downed their opponent 6-3, 3-6 and 7-5 to book berth in the semifinals of Grand Slam event, which is in progress in London. After this victory, they will now meet Colombia’s Robert Farah and Germany’s Anna-Lena Groenefeld in the semifinals.

Earlier, Aisam and Shvedova registered victory against British duo Neal Skupski and Anna Smith 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. They dominated the first set taking the lead 1-0 in the opening game, while Skupski and Smith caught them up in the sixth game to level the match 3-3.

But the 14th seeds, Aisam and Shvedova took the first set with a service winner 6-3 in the ninth game of the match. They faced resistance from the local pair as they conceded the first game of the second set 1-0; however, both levelled it in the next 1-1. The match lasted for more than an hour.

Aisam was also competing in the men’s doubles event; however, he had to face the second round exit earlier in the tournament.
