KARACHI - National Master Haseeb Ahmed won the 28th Sindh Chess Championships on a tie break after he shared the top of the points table with young Faraz Saleem with seven and half points after the two challengers tied in the 9th and the final round of the championships here On Thursday.
In the 9th and the concluding round, Master Haseeb and Faraz Saleem tied on 7 ½ points for the top position .But Haseeb got an edge of just 0.5 on buchholz points system used to decide the tie, he won the main title and a motor bicycle as winners prize.
Faraz Saleem finished second and Wahid Hussain with six and half points third.
Atif Baloch Member Sindh Council (PPP) who was guest of honour at the prize distribution ceremony announced Rs. Hundred thousand as token gift to junior player Tariq Khanzada and two air tickets for players who would participate in World School Championship in Romania. Top eight players in senior category and two juniors have already qualified to play in the National Championships which will be held in Quetta some time in near future.
