Four matches decided in NBP Gold Cup Hockey

LAHORE - Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Customs, Navy and Police registered triumphs in the NBP Gold Cup Hockey Tournament after beating their respective rivals here at the National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
PIA thrashed Army 5-0 before leading the first half 1-0. Airlines struck much improved performance, thanks to a hat-trick feat by their key scorer Zubair in the following session to outshine their opponents in all departments of the game. The winners added the goals one after another at their will and Army found no way to avoid the punishment. Inyatullah and Kashif Ali also added one goal in the winner’s tally.
Customs outplayed Pakistan Air Force 4-2 before leading the first half 2-1, dominating the game with anticipation and collective efforts. PAF deployed much of their force on tacking the speedy of their opponents’ forwards. Captain Rizwan Khan scored the first goal in the seventh minute then Owais added two goals while Mubashar netted the team’s last goal.
For the losers, M Anees and Mushtaq hit one goal each.
Navy routed Higher Education Commission (HEC) 6-3. The winners led the first half 3-1 after getting into lead in early session. They continued their superior form in the following session and hammered three more goals to keep their opponents struggling. For Navy, captain Khalid Ali slammed two goals while Mohsin Sabir, M Sabir, Baber Hussain and M Asif Ali added one goal each. For HEC, Zeeshan Akram, Hassan Obaid and Kamran hit one goal each. Police hardly defeated National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) 5-3 before being 1-3 at the half time. Police came with determination and full force to change the entire complexion of the match first leveling the score at 3-3 then winning the match.
