Body discusses sports events to be held in 2011

ISLAMABAD - Director General Pakistan Sports Board Amir Hamza Gillani chaired a meeting which was held here at Pakistan Sports Complex on Thursday. The meeting was attended by the heads of Sports Boards of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The participants of meeting discussed in detail the holding of under-16 (girls) and under-14 (boys) tournaments to be played across the country in 2011. The DG PSB urged the provincial heads of sports boards to honestly contribute towards the promotion of sports and discourage the negative trends which usually affected the discipline and sanctity of the games. He also gave the final approval of number of games and schedule of the youth tournaments to be organised during 2010-11. Athletics, table tennis, badminton, hockey and wushu were included in the category of the under-16 (girls) events. The Sindh Sports Board will organise the girls under-16 athletics tournament in January 2011 in Karachi. Table tennis under-16 (girls) will be organised by Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sports Board in April 2011. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Board will organise badminton under-16 (girls) and the Punjab Sports Board will organise hockey and wushu under-16 (girls), respectively in May 2011 at Lahore and in June 2011 at Multan. In the boys under-14 category, the Islamabad Sports Board will organise athletics under-14 (boys) tournament in May 2011. Wrestling under-14 (boys) tournament will be organised by the Punjab Sports Board in March 2011. The Balochistan Sports Board will host badminton under-14 (boys) tournament in June 2011. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Board will organise boxing under-14 (boys) tournament in February 2011, tennis under-14 (boys) by the Sindh Sports Board in April 2011, the Gilgit-Baltistan Sports Board will host taekwondo under-14 (boys) in June 2011 and Balochistan table tennis under-14 (boys) tournament in June 2011. The DG PSB also approved the financial liabilities that included return fare of the players and officials, boarding, lodging and tournament prize money all of these expenditures would be bared by the PSB, he concluded.
