Sarah clinches National Ranking Tennis title

ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan No 1 Sarah Mehboob Khan beat top seed Sara Mansoor in the final to clinch the 1st Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championship ladies title here at PTF Complex on Friday.
The jam-packed final was witnessed with great enthusiasm as the spectators thoroughly enjoyed the stroke making of both the players but it was Sarah who used aggressive hitting from the baseline to win the first set in style without any major resistance 6-1. In the second set, however, Sara Mansoor gave some resistance and broke Sarah to lead 4-3, but Sarah bounced back to tie the set at 4-all. In the ninth game, Sarah put her first serve in and took a 5-4 lead and then broke back to win the second set 6-4, thus winning the final in one hour of high quality tennis.
M Muzammil beat M Raza Sawani in the U-18 final. It was Raza who won the first set 6-3. Muzammil, however, found his range on his serve and ground strokes and won the second set 6-1. In the third and final set, both the players reached 4-all by holding their respective serves. Then Muzammil broke his opponent serve to lead for the first time in the third set and then hold onto his serve to win 6-4.
Unseeded Abid Ali Akbar and his brother Baber Ali Akbar beat Yasir Khan and Shahzad Khan 6-3, 6-3 in the men's doubles final. Abid/Baber served and volley well and returned well, particularly, Abid was too sharp with his pinpoint passing shots and they comfortably won the match 6-3, 6-3.
In seniors’ 45 doubles final, Hameedul Haq and Rashid Khan beat Irfan Ullah and Umar Ayaz 6-2, 6-2 while in the seniors’ 55 doubles final, Inamul Haq and Musa Khan defeated Mehboob Khan and Asif Dar 6-3, 6-3.  In boys’ U-12 semifinals, Shoaib Khan outpaced Sami Zeb 6-1, 6-0 in the first semi-final while Aqib Umer beat Riyan Sohail 6-1, 6-4 in the second semi-final. Shoaib will face Aqib in the final.
In the boys’ U-14 semifinals, Huzaifa Abdul Rehman beat Nauman 6-2, 6-3 in the first semifinal while Saqib Umer eliminated Shuaib Khan 6-1, 6-1 in the second semifinal. Huzaifa will take on Saqib in the final. The Boys U-12 and U-14 will be played today (Saturday) at 10am while men's singles final will be played at 1:45pm.
