PESHAWAR (APP) - Top seed Amir Atlas was off to flying start after defeating first qualifier Aurangzeb in the opening match of the main round of National Senior Squash Championship here at Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Friday. Amir Atlas took only 27 minutes in toppling Auranzeb in straight games. The score was 11-5, 11-5 and 11-8. Aurangzeb offered some resistance in the third set but overall Amir Atlas dominated the proceeding and did not give much time to Aurangzeb to settle down. With this victory Amir took berth into the quarter-finals of the Championship. In the other first round match, former world no 10 Amjad Khan upset fifth seeded Hamza Bokhari of Punjab by 3-1, the score was 11-9, 11-8 and 12-10. Hamza delighted the sitting spectators with his excellent drop shorts but experienced Amjad quickly got control over the match. The third set was tied at 4-4, 6-6, 8-8, 9-9 and 10-10 where Hamza tried hard by saving three match points before losing the match against Amjad Khan. Asian junior champion Safeerullah beat qualifier Sajid Khan in fourth sets battle. The match lasted for 43rd minute. Safeerullah took the first set by 12-10 but lost the second 10-12. After 1-1, Safeerullah did not give chance to Sajid Khan to strike back and won two consecutive sets by 13-11 and 11-9. In the fourth match Owais Khan beat Shoaib Hassan by 3-1, the score was 11-9, 10-12, 11-9 and 11-7. In the other match Waqar Mehboob beat third qualifier Khalid Atlas by 3-1. Waqar faced tough resistance against Khalid Atlas in the 47th minute match. Waqar took the first set by 13-11 but failed to click in the second and lost it at 10-12 but soon Waqar managed his position by winning two consecutives sets by 11-9 and 12-10. Former Pakistan No.1 Mansoor Zaman defeated Sheikh Saqib in straight sets, the score was 11-6, 11-7 and 11-9. In the last match Farhan Mehboob beat Waseem Shad by 3-1, the score was 10-12, 13-11, 11-9 and 11-6. Farhan lost the first set but soon he got control over the match and did not give Waseem a single chance to strike back. Waseem Shad also played well, specially in the first and second sets. In the last first round match Waqas Mehboob beat Farhan Zaman in straight sets, the score was 11-9, 12-10 and 12-10. Both Waqas and Farhan exhibited excellent display of drop shorts, nicks and some perfect forceful smashing. All the first round winners moved into the quarter-finals to be played on Saturday.
