KC thump LC to win Women Cricket title
LAHORE – Kinnaird College outclassed Lahore College by 43 runs to win the final of the Lahore Board Women Cricket Championship 2014 played here at the Lahore College University cricket ground on Thursday. Put into bat first, Kinnaird College managed to score 149 runs for the loss of only one wicket in 20 overs. Zara Iqbal played unbeaten knock of 64 runs laced with boundaries and sixes while Kaynat Hafeez contributed important 49 runs and Noreen Yaqoob 21 runs. Only Nida was the bowler for Lahore College who got one wicket apiece. Lahore College, in reply, were all out for 105 runs in 20 overs. Waheeda Akhtar was the key batswoman for the losers as she scored 31 runs. Kaynat Hafeez and Noreen Yaqoob ripped through the LC batting by getting three wickets each for Kinnaird College.–Staff Reporter


 


LC Club beat Lahore Whites
LAHORE – Lahore College Club defeated LAHORE WHITES by 23 runs in the Trial Matches for Lahore Region third match played here at the KC ground Thursday. Batting first, Lahore College Club were all out for 159 runs in 40.4 overs. Sidra Nawaz was the player of the day as she played brilliant knock of 79 runs and was ably assisted by Razia Malik who contributed important 34 runs. Bakhtawar Iqbal and Hina Azam bowled well and clinched three wickets each for Lahore Whites. LAHORE WHITES, in reply, could manage to score 137 losing all their wickets in 43 overs. Sania Ashraf (38) and Mehru Khan (15) were the players who reached double figures for the losers. Tuba Hassan and Arfa Talib were the successful bowlers for the winners as they grabbed two wickets each.–Staff Reporter


 


Acting PSB DG made permanent: Sources
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) acting Director General Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera was promoted as permanent DG PSB. The inside sources confirmed to this scribe that all the formalities in this regard have been completed and notification will be issued very soon. When this scribe contacted Ganjera to confirm the appointment, he said: “I have also heard through different quarters, but I haven't received any written notification yet.” Another inside source on condition of anonymity confirmed the developments and termed Ganjera’s promotion as good and positive omen for Pakistani sports and athletes. Being a sportsman and highly qualified person, he is the perfect appointment and one of the very few individuals, who have done masters in sports and that too from Australia.–Staff Reporter


 


Snooker Academy inaugurated
ISLAMABAD - Former national snooker champion and Asian Games bronze medalist Shahram Changezi established a snooker lounge and academy in Gulraiz III. Ex-DG Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Brig (r) Arif Siddiqui was chief guest at the opening ceremony along with other notables and players. Arif lauded Shahram for establishing snooker academy and stressed upon promoting the game which earned good name for the country. Shahram said: “We will try to remove flaws from the techniques of the players and also provide free of cost training to school, college and university students and conduct tournaments for them. Yasir Nadeem won the final of the tournament and was awarded Rs 10,000 cash and trophy after beating Raja Arshad 3-1.
