LAHORE - Saqlain Mushtaq, the former Pakistani off-spinner, is likely to be appointed Bangladesh’s spin bowling coach ahead of their upcoming series against Ireland.
The deal is expected to be signed in a few days, which will probably last till the ICC World T20 2012, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in September/October.
There have been many off-spinners in the modern-day sport like Muttiah Muralitharan, Saeed Ajmal, Harbhajan Singh and Graeme Swann, who have played a huge role in their teams’ success. However, it was Saqlain who rejuvenated the art of off-spin bowling in the 1990s and will always be remembered as one of the greatest spinners in the game's history.
While talking to Pakpassion, the former great, who is now settled in England, revealed that he is in negotiations with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).  
"Yes it's accurate that I've been approached by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the role of spin bowling coach," Saqlain expressed. "At the moment, my agent is in discussions with the BCB and I have not signed a deal yet to become the Bangladesh spin bowling coach."
The Lahore-born cricketer represented Pakistan in 49 Tests and 169 One Day Internationals, before a knee injury, which halted his international career in 2004. The 35-year-old picked up more than 490 wickets at the ultimate level of the sport and will always be rated as a trend-setter and one of the finest bowlers of the 50-over format.
The former cricketer further added that Bangladesh is fast improving as an international team, coached by Richard Pybus (the former Pakistan coach) at the moment. Having played under his coaching in past, Saqlain is excited about working alongside the South African.
"Bangladesh cricket has a lot of potential and hopefully if appointed I would love to work with Bangladeshi cricketers at all age groups. It will also be great to work with former Pakistan head coach Richard Pybus. I have a lot of respect for Richard who is an excellent coach," he added.
