swimming pool inaugurated in Wah

ISLAMABAD - POF Board chairman Lt Gen M Ahsan Mahmood HI (M) Wednesday said the progress of any society relied upon sports related healthy activities.
“POF administration always endeavours to provide best standard sports facilities to its employees and their families,” he said this on the inaugural ceremony of newly-renovated swimming pool situated at Haider Road, Wah Cantt, which is meant for POF employees and their families.
“This swimming pool is upgraded by spending huge money and is at par with international standard, adding that it has been constructed with the amount earned by POF employees who worked day and night for the progress of POF and now it should be our collective obligation to take care of this precious asset, so that no one can dare to damage it,” Ahsan added.
Earlier, President POF sports control board M Rizwan in his welcome remarks told that swimming pool was constructed in way back in 1968 and now it had been upgraded after 45 years, which would certainly provide an excellent facility to the inhabitants of Wah Cantt.
“It is a beautiful gift for the residents of Wah Cantt by POF administration and due to keen interest of the POF Board chairman in the promotion of sports activities here, Wah will soon get the status of sports city,” he added.
Swimming competitions were also held on this occasion. In 50 metre free style junior category, M Ihtisham took first and Aqib Khan second. In 50 metre free style open category, Mazhar Mahmood, who is deaf and dumb, clinched first position while Usman Habib Kiyani got second.
A coin finding competition at the depth of 8 feet was also held, which Mahmood Ahmed and Umar Habib Kiyani succeeded in finding coins.
Chief guest Lt Gen Ahsan Mahmood gave away cash prizes and trophies to the position holders and also awarded Mazhar Mahmood a special cash prize of Rs 5000 on winning first position in the National Games 2013. A large number of high ranking military and civil officers, players, POF employees and their children witnessed the competitions. Sports circles have appreciated the addition of another feather in the cap of POF Sports Complex.
