Misbah wants to lead by example

LAHORE Pakistans new Test captain Misbahul Haq wants to lead by example to bring out the best out of his colleagues. I have always believed, that person is the best captain who leads by example and can motivate his players with his own performances, Misbah said on Saturday. Misbah was made Test captain on Friday for the coming series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates next month in a shocking decision by the Pakistan Cricket Board who preferred to ignore former captain Younus Khan. Misbah who was ignored by the national selectors since his poor show in the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies, said he saw his new job as a big honour as well as a major challenge. The most important thing for me is to focus on my own form and get runs because if I am in form then I can also lift the other players in the team, he said. Misbah, 36, said he had never given up hope of playing for Pakistan again despite being dropped from the national team in May. I am a professional cricketer and my job is to remain fit and in match-form all the time. Even when I was out of the team I kept on training hard because I knew the call could come any day, he said. But he admitted that he never expected to get a call to lead the Test team against South Africa. Sohail asks President to intervene in PCB matters Former Test captain Aamir Sohail has appealed to the government to intervene in the cricketing affairs of the country. Sohail said on a private TV that the chief patron, President Asif Zardari, needed to take steps to resolve the cricket crisis. Sohail said that he was surprised that the government had not realized the significance and importance of cricket as a tool to unify the nation. The government must realise it is not just a sport in Pakistan. The government must realise cricket has always served as a unifying factor in this country, he said. The former chief selector who has been a vocal critic of the present board set-up and its Chairman Ijaz Butt, said that cricket was being damaged beyond repair in the country. The chief patron must wake up to the reality and take notice of the seriousness of the crisis, he said. I am really surprised that a seasoned political party like the Pakistan Peoples Party has still not realised that things are not moving forward with this present set up and Chairman, he said. He pointed out that the PCB Chairman was causing untold damage to Pakistan cricket by continuing to be involved in an ego tussle with former captain Younus Khan. For no rhyme or reason Ijaz Butt refuses to give clearance for Younus to be in the Pakistan team. If Younus has committed a major crime or indiscipline then it is the duty of the board to let the people know so that Younus Khan chapter is closed once for all, he said.
