Golden Star CC beat Albilal CC
LAHORE – Golden Star Cricket Club beat Albilal Cricket Club by seven wickets and moved to the second round of the 11th M Siddiq Memorial Cricket Tournament here at the Albilal ground, Township. Fifties scored by Talha and M Ashfaq of Albilal CC and M Ameer and M Asif of Golden Star CC were highlight of the day. Bating first, Albilal CC scored 204-5 in 20 overs. Talha was top scorer with 82 while M Ashfaq added 62 and Haroon 27. For Golden Star CC, Hafiz Shahbaz Ali clinched 2-20. In reply, Golden Star CC, achieved the required target for the loss of three wickets in 18.3 overs. M Ameer slammed unbeaten 61 and M Asif unbeaten 52 while Zulfqar Ali added 32, Nadeem Khan 30 and Wasif Zaman 19. For Albilal CC, M Sajid took 2-45. Golf Tournament commences today
LAHORE – The Garden Motors Golf Tournament endorsed by Toyota Garden Motors, Lahore, will be contested over two days at the Lahore Gymkhana golf course from today (Saturday). The competition categories include veterans, seniors, ladies and amateurs. The hole in one car is up for a catch, if a competitor succeeds in achieving a hole in one on any of the par 3, fifth, ninth or seventeenth holes. Kh Jahanzaib of Toyota Garden Motors hoped that the hole in one was executed by a lucky, proficient shot which would be a historic moment for the fortunate one and also for the championship. The veterans, seniors and ladies will compete today (Saturday). Out of a total of 110 amateurs, top contenders are Wazir Ali, Zunair Aleem, Murad Khan, Shahid A Khan and Raza Ali Khan.–Staff Reporter
SN Earth Day National Ladies, Jrs Tennis
ISLAMABAD – The five-day long Subh-e-Nau Earth Day National Ladies and Juniors Tennis Championship will start from April 21 here at the PTF Tennis Complex. The tournament is first of its kind celebrating Earth Day and more than 500 trees will be planted in the vicinity of Islamabad. Subh-e-Nau (SN) chairperson Shahida Kauser Farooq said that tournament aimed at promoting tennis on grassroots levels. “Five different categories including ladies singles and doubles, U-18 singles and doubles and U-14 singles will be contested during the event.” Top seeded players have confirmed their entries in the event which carried prize purse of Rs 150,000. National Taekwondo C’ship from today
LAHORE – The Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTWF) is going to organise the National Taekwondo Championship from today (Saturday) here at the Wapda Sports Complex. Government-backed Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) president Maj Gen (r) M Akram Sahi will be chief guest at the opening ceremony while PTWF president Khawaja M Naeem, who is also vice chairman Nepra, POA secretary Justice Khawaja Farooq Saeed and other sports personalities will also grace the occasion as guests of honour. The opening ceremony will be held at 4 pm today (Saturday). According to federation secretary Shakeel Yousaf, Fatima Group are the sponsors of event. “The participating teams are Punjab, KPK, Balochistan, Sindh, Fata, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, HEC, Railways and Wapda. Lahore in Lancaster-COMSATS final
LAHORE – COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Lahore beat Lancaster University by 39 runs in the last league match to enter the final of the Lancaster-COMSATS Twenty20 Cricket Championship here at the Gaddafi Stadium Friday. Lahore will take on CITT Attock/Wah Campus in the final to be played today (Saturday). Batting first, CIIT Lahore piled up a huge total of 194-6 in allotted 20 overs. Waqas Aslam scored 49 runs while Majid Mughal and Shah Zeb contributed 38 and 27 runs respectively. Sam Dyson and Basim Bashir bowled well and took two wickets each for Lancaster. In reply, Lancaster could manage to score 155 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Malley Ali hammered 69 runs dispatching the ball 13 times through the ropes while Jim Calloing made 39 runs.–Staff Reporter
