RAWALPINDI - Karachi Dolphins registered an empathetic six-wicket victory against Sialkot Stallions in the last pool match of Faysal Bank Twenty20 Tournament for Regions last group match played here at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Only two matches were played on Tuesday at Pindi Stadium, as Islamabad had already finished their quota of matches. It was expected a cake walk for Karachi, who required 92 runs for victory, but irresponsibility shown by the top order pushed panic button, as Karachi lost four wickets for 30 runs, but introduction of Fawad Alam and Shaharyar Ghani put breaks on Sialkot advances. Both remained unbeaten to guide Karachi home in 17.1 overs. Shaharyar made unbeaten 32 in 26 deliveries hitting three boundaries and one six while Fawad made unbeaten 27. Raza Hasan grabbed 2-21. Fawad was named player of the match. Despite loss in the last group game, Sialkot still topped the group.
Earlier, Sialkot Stallions opted to bat first and their wickets fell like ninepins, as none of the batsman could stamp out their authority. Sialkot innings folded at 91 in 19.4 overs. Skipper Shoaib Malik made 21 in 31 deliveries while Ali Khan added 17 and Haris Sohail 15. Abdul Amir was pick of the Dolphins bowlers grabbing 4-14 while Fawad took 3-12.
In the first match of the day played at Pindi Cricket Stadium between Lahore Eagles and Faisalabad Wolves, Lahore opted to bat first. The decision proved disastrous when Lahore Eagles batting once again flopped miserably. For the third time in running, Lahore posted a meager 93-8 in 20 overs. Kamran Akmal made 37-ball 30 while Imran Farhat added 23. Saeed Ajmal play ripped through Lahore batting line up grabbing 3-16 while Khurrum Shahzad and Asad Ali got two wickets each.
Requiring a modest total to chase, Faisalabad reached home in 13.4 overs losing two wickets. Ali Waqas made 31, studied with two fours and one six while Farrukh added 23. Tanzeel Ali and Junaid Zia took a wicket each. Saeed Ajmal was adjudged as man of the match.
It was although a dead rubber as far as Lahore chances in the event are concerned as they were already out from the quarterfinal race, losing both their previous matches and it was expected they will play for the pride, but Lahore players once again let themselves down. Kamran Akmal failed to turn up for keeping wickets, sighting abdominal pain.
