LAHORE - Former captain and wicketkeeper Moin Khan is the new coach of Pakistan, while Aamir Sohail has been removed as chief selector by the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee (MC).
Sohail was appointed only last week by Zaka Ashraf, who was sacked on Monday as PCB chairman by Prime Minister Mian M Nawaz Sharif, and appointed the eight-member management committee.
PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed says the committee endorsed Najam Sethi as their chairman during a meeting lasting well over five hours here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.
Moin Khan was named head coach of the national team, former Test opener Shoaib Mohammad, son of the great Hanif Mohammad, was appointed as fielding coach, Zaheer Abbas as chief cricket consultant while bowling coach M Akram’s contract was extended for two years. Azhar Khan will be acting chief selector.
The first meeting of the management committee was attended by PCB chairman Najam Aziz Sethi, members MC Shahryar Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Shakil Shaikh and Iqbal Qasim, PCB COO Subhan Ahmad, secretary to the MC Bar Salman Naseer and Taffazul Haider Rizvi attended the meeting upon special invitation.
The meeting took some important administrative and cricketing decisions. The MC decided in principle that any decision which lacks transparency or due process shall not be ratified and only such decisions will be taken which fulfill the said benchmark.
The meeting also ratified circular resolution electing Najam as PCB chairman. It also principally agreed to appoint an advisory committee on regional affairs comprising representatives of regions.
It also principally agreed to appoint an advisory committee on cricketing affairs comprising former cricket captains and ex-PCB chairmen. The MC examined the circumstances surrounding the removal of Taffazul Haider Rizvi, Advocate Supreme Court from the panel of legal consultants and decided to reappoint him with immediate effect.
The notification reinstating Interim Committees in various RCAs and DCAs was issued without due process and without lawful authority and is without legal effect.
The appointments of Basit Ali and M Ilyas were not in accordance with the PCB services rules. Their appointments are declared as void abinitio, null and void. PCB service rules were not followed in the decision to appoint them. Further, the record reflects that Amir Sohail was never issued a letter of appointment for any post in PCB therefore he holds no post in the board.
The COO briefed the MC about the proposed resolutions and outcome of the ICC meetings. The matters were discussed and keeping in view the importance of the issue, it has been decided to take the discussions forward in the next MC Meeting to be held shortly.
