Common sense must prevail to regain ground

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan team by now must have come out of the shock of humiliating defeat at the hands of New Zealand, and they must forget as they have been defeated by a team which played better on that particular day and it was just a bad day for Pakistan. The Green Shirts must now focus on their next assignment, which is the match against Zimbabwe. Although the Sri Lanka at the end comfortably beat Zimbabwe in Thursday match, the Zimbabwe openers definitely gave them a scare with over 100 runs opening stand. Zimbabwean team lack the depth and quality in their ranks otherwise they are a very balanced side especially the bowling is their secret weapon. Pakistan must not be relaxed as it cant afford to take Zimbabwe as easy or weak opponent. This match will be a test case for the Pakistani selectors as how will they cope with the situation and what steps they will take after the defeat by Kiwis. How much team is mentally and professionally fit to take on the Australian big guns? This match will also provide the team management an opportunity to gamble on rookie fast bowler Junaid Khan, because that is the last game in which selectors can afford to take chance on him. This will also be the ideal platform for Shahid Afridi and Co to flex their muscles and gain match practice as much as they can before the eagerly awaited match against the current world champion Australia. But the news coming from the Pakistani camp clearly gave the indication that Kamran Akmal was most likely to be retained in the side for the remaining matches. This will be the biggest shock for the millions of fans across the globe who follow Pakistan cricket. This also means the selectors are incapable of making right decisions. If the selectors want Kamran to continue playing then one thing is dame sure they are not serious in making any further progress in the World Cup. You cant win matches by keep on dropping crucial catches and not availing stumping chances. The entire nation demands answer from the Pakistan Cricket Board to tell the reason why Kamran Akmal is so essential for the team despite his continued worst performance. This will prove to be the final nail in the PCB coffin. The masses anger has reached the stage where the bubble is about to burst. One more doggy performance from the PCB favourite Kamran Akmal (which is a very much likely) countrywide demonstrations will be waiting in the wings, and no one but PCB and its panel of selectors will be held responsible for this if it happens. One thing is for sure no one in the country wants Pakistan to perform badly and almost each and every person whether they have the knowledge of the game or not are praying for the Green Shirts to once again lift the glittering World Cup trophy. Now its up to the PCB to adopt a strict stance on Kamran Akmal and listen to the team captain Shahid Afridi who publicly criticised Kamran Akmals performance. It is the captain who shares all the blame of a defeat then he must be involved in not only team selection but also on all major issues regarding the team. PCB must take notice of the team coach Waqar Younis and Manager Intikhab Alam why they are backing Kamran Akmal. There is room for underachievers in the team and this rule must be strictly followed by all. The only way of holding on your place is by performing not being the blue-eyed of someone influential. This is a test case for PCB and the entire board, as how they would tackle with this simple but tricky situation. Will they succumb to pressure like past or finally for-the-sake of 180 million people, who are looking in hope by holding their breath, would take a bold stand by dropping out of sorts Kamran Akmal? Only the time will tell commonsense finally prevails or not.
