KARACHI - ANISUDDIN KHAN - New instructions issued recently by International Boxing federation (AIBA) advising its affiliates to get approval and recognition of all their election process beginning with the approval of its constitution indicate that Pakistan Boxing Federation is in deeper and greater trouble than previously thought by holding its allegedly controversial elections in Lahore last month.
The AIBA, mother body of amateur boxing the world over had already withheld approving and recognizing election of Pakistan Boxing Federation held at Lahore in which the incumbent chief Doda Khan Bhutto got himself re elected.
The international body had already advised the PBF to immediately provide in details the election process and the amendments that had been allegedly made without informing and getting AIBA approval or face action which include provisional suspension from the world body.
International Boxing federation had already suspended Indian Boxing Federation for ignoring its instructions and not getting approval of its constitution and election process.
In the new instruction issued to the national federation, AIBA had reminded them that under AIBA constitution article 13(D), (E) and article 14, all national federations constitution, election and appointment processes had to be approved by AIBA. Should the national federations failed to provide these information, the national federations risk any election result being not recognized by AIBA face sanctions for failing to comply with the AIBA statutes and bylaws including a provisional suspension.
In a letter issued under the signature of executive director Ho Kim, AIBA addressed to national federations wrote: “As you are aware, according to Article 13 (D), (E) and Article 14 of the AlBA Statutes, all National Federation statutes or constitution, election and appointment processes must be approved by AIBA. AIBA may also send an Observer to the election, should it be deemed necessary.
In the circumstances, please immediately let us know at what stage in the election process your National Federation is at and whether any notification, agenda, list of presidential/executive committee candidates and so on have been dispatched to members, and if so, when. Going forward, please inform us of when each procedural step is due to be taken, in accordance with your National Federation statutes or constitution and keep us updated on this process.
In the event your National Federation's General Assembly and elections have already taken place and you have not, in accordance with Article 13 (E) of the AlBA Statutes, submitted the results of these elections and organizational structure to International Boxing federation for final approval and recognition, please do so immediately.
Please also provide us, as soon as possible, with a copy of your current National Federation statutes or constitution in English (as per Article 13 (D) of the AlBA Statutes), if you have not already done so.
By providing this information, AlBA shall be able to assist your National Federation to comply with all the rules. Should it fail to provide this information, your National Federation risks any election result being not recognized by AlBA and/or face sanctions for failing to comply with the International Boxing federation Statutes and Bylaws, including a provisional suspension.”
