Pirlo linked with New York move

Italian and Juventus midfield maestro, Andrea Pirlo has reportedly agreed to join New York City Football Club. The club was initially keen on signing Barcelona midfielder Xavi. However, Xavi has opted for Qatari side Al-Sadd.

New York City Football Club became the twentieth overall and second New York based franchise to compete in the Major League Soccer. The club began playing in the 2015 MLS season.

NYCFC, however, receive stiff competition from former A-League champions, Sydney FC, in their pursuit of Andrea Pirlo. Sydney FC and the A-League came under the spotlight after capturing the signature of Pirlo's former teammate, Alessandro Del Piero, who created an instant impact and helped the Australian league gain recognition all over the globe.

If Pirlo does sign for the New York based franchise, he will become the club's third Designated player. The other two being Spanish forward, David Villa and former Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard. The American League continues to attract legends of the game in an attempt to improve football standards in the country. Steven Gerrard is another player who is set to become a regular feature of the league after he signed for Los Angeles Galaxy.

Preparing for life after Pirlo, Juventus have already agreed a deal with Real Madrid for the World Cup winning German, Sami Khedira. Juventus have tough decisions to make with regard to their squad as they enter the transfer season with hefty bids coming in from elite clubs for Paul Pogba, Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata.
