LAHORE - The trials for emerging young fast bowlers under ‘King of Speed' were held in Multan and Garhi Khuda Baksh here on Saturday.
The round one trials are part of the initiative taken by Ufone and PCB to hunt and train the best bowling talent in Pakistan.
Atta Ullah and Amir Yamin were the lucky ones, who got selected after the trials in Multan. The officials were Waseem Haider, Nadeem Iqbal along with two analysts Usman Hashami and Salman Gill. At Garhi Khuda Baksh, trials were conducted by Saleem Jaffar, Tauseef Ahmed and M Zubair, who selected Wajid Ali and Mahfooz Ahmed to qualify for the next round. The second round of trials is scheduled to be held on Sunday April 21 in National Stadium, Karachi and Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
The trials for the rest of the cities in the current phase are also scheduled in the current month as in Faisalabad the trials will be held on 14th, in Karachi and Islamabad on 15th, in Peshawar on 16th, in Quetta and Abbottabad on 17th, in AJK (Mirpur) on 18th and finally in Lahore on 20th. A total of 20 fast bowlers, two from each city will attend the round two. After the completion of both the rounds, the three selected players, via wild card entry, will join Wasim Akram and bowlers from the Pakistan national cricket team in a camp to be hosted in Karachi. To reward upcoming talent, Ufone has announced a grand prize of Rs one million for the bowler who will be the fastest amongst all besides hitting or passing the 145 km/h mark.
