It was a rather easy outing for the former world number one as the Spaniard Rafael Nadal beat Gael Monfils of France 6-3, 6-4 to book a place in the final of the Mercedes open.
Nadal succeeded in defeating Monfils in less than ninety minutes. Monfils turned out to be one of Nadal’s easier scalps this week considering the struggle Nadal went through playing the last two matches which took place earlier this week.
Even though Nadal had no aces in the match, he still managed to go through the match with no double faults and saved all four of the break points he faced as he beat the French for the 11th time in his career. The 29 year old former world number 1 will be playing for the 66th trophy of his career but only the second this season. Nadal has lifted this trophy twice way back in 2005 and 2007.
A jubilant Nadal talked to the press after the match. “I am very happy with this performance. I am slowly improving on grass. It would be fantastic to win on grass here, but I can only focus on the final and try to play my best.”
Nadal will face either Marin Cilic or Viktor Troicki on Sunday, the 14th of June with the aim to clinch the title for the 3rd time in his career.
