Pakistan-India series likely by next year?

LAHORE - The Pakistan cricket Board has sought the International Cricket Council's help in facilitating the bilateral series against India in England. The PCB is looking for possibilities for a series against India next year. Pakistan is to host Australia for its split series, part of which has already been played in UAE. Pakistan played its ODI series against Australia in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the remaining part of the series, the three Test matches which to be played later this year, were scheduled before the Pakistan and England series next year. Similarly, Pakistan will be playing New Zealand in New Zealand due to security concerns but venues are yet to be finalised. And so are the test match venues against Australia that were to be played in England. Reports suggested that the PCB chairman in his meeting with ICC president David Morgan got assurances that the parent body would try to ease the tension between the two boards and by playing a negotiator's role would bring the two cricket playing nations back to the field. And if that was made possible then the ODI and Test series would be arranged between Pakistan and India at a neutral venue and most possibly in England where the warm-up match of the T20 World Championship among them brought packed stadium. Reports said that the ICC chief did not make any promises but said he would work out something between the two countries next year. India have suspended bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan since last November's the Mumbai terror attacks. "The proposal is for three Tests, three One-dayers and a couple of Twenty20 matches," an Indian news agency quoted source. Pakistan is due to play Australia next year in England apart from a separate series against Andrew Strauss' men. The chances of a thaw in relations between the two rival nations are bright as the Indian government has shown willingness to mend relations with Pakistan after their general elections are now over. But all they want is to find an opening in the international calendar to fit in their series. And if the series was feasible then the cash striped PCB would get its share of television rights of $ 70 million from Ten Sports.
