LAHORE - Saqib Khan Khakwani steered Adisseo to 5-3½ triumph over Hataff in the Dimal Polo Cup 2014 main final played here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Sunday.
Both the teams started the final well and tried their best to take early lead but all their efforts went in vain as the first chukker ended goalless. Star-studded Saqib Khakwani started the second chukker in great style as he slammed superb two back-to-back goals to help Adisseo take 2-0 lead which was reduced by Hataff’s Hassan Ali Farrukh to make it 2-1.
The third chukker was totally dominated by Hataff as Agha Murtaza Ali hammered two back-to-back goals to help his team take 3-2 lead. In the fourth and last chukker, Adisseo’s players showed their dominance and smashed three goals one by Agha Najeeb and two back-to-back goals by Saqib to finish the chukker 5-3. Besides superb polo by Saqib, the presence and experience of Lahore Polo Club (LPC) president Haye Mehta was also behind Adisseo’s impressive win over Hataff. Sardar Hamayun was chief guest at the final and gave away trophy to the winning team.
In the subsidiary final, Pebble Breaker defeated MMS by 8-6½. The first chukker witnessed four goals three by Pebble Breaker and one by MMS. Atif Tiwana hammered two and Mohsin Atta Khan Khosa one for the winners while Irfan Sheikh hit one for the losers. The second chukker was dominated by by Pebble Breaker as Adil Yar Tiwana and Mohsin Ata hit one goal each to finish the chukker 5-1. The third chukker was evenly poised as two goals each came from both sides. Atif Tiwana and Ali Malik hit one goal each for the winners while Babar Monnoo and Sufi M Haroon had one goal each for the losers. The score at the end of the third chukker was 7-3. The fourth and last chukker saw one goal each from both the teams. Babar Monnoo scored one for the winners and Adil one for the losers as the score at the end of the match was 8-4 in favour of Pebble Breaker.
