LAHORE - Pakistan polo team is all set to face Nigeria on Wednesday (today) in the World Cup qualifier round of the Zone D Play-offs at Malaysia. Nigerias meeting with Pakistan team, which last qualified for the World Cup Championship in 2003, will decide their qualification prospect, which looks dim already given the heavy negative goals difference Nigerian sustained Monday against Africans. South Africa, on the other hand, will attempt to complete their semi-final drive with a match against Pakistan on Saturday June 18. Pakistan polo team is a talented side which has the capacity to defeat all the teams participating in the play offs. The team is curious to play a semi-final match against India which will be a thrilling and challenging match and the team is looking forward to beat arch-rivals. After Nigerian team was fallen to South African superior attack by 13-5, Pakistan team too has a bright chance to ease past them. Pakistani six-member squad is a combination of young talent and relatively experienced players as well. Hissam Ali Hyder is leading the Pakistan team while M Saqib Khan, Raja Samiullah and Taimur Nadeem are the other members. Ahmed Ali Tiwana and Bilal Haye are the two reserve players. The Nigerian team includes players such as Bello Buba, Hamisu Buba, Ibrahim Mohamed, Baba Dawulen and Abdulmalik Gbadamosi. As many as seven countries including defending champions South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Malaysia are featuring in the qualifiers with the top three going into the Federation of International Polo (FIP) World Cup finals in San Luis, Argentina from October 11 to October 25. The participants teams have been divided into two pools for the qualifiers. Pool A includes India, Australia, Malaysia, and New Zealand while Pool B comprises Pakistan, South Africa and Nigeria. Two winners from each pool will play the semi-final of the qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur on June 22.
