PCB appoints Moin Khan as chief selector

LAHORE - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday appointed former Pakistan team captain Moin Khan as chief selector after the resignation of Iqbal Qasim last month.
Moin, 41, is the youngest person to be named to the chief selector’s post by the cricket board.
The PCB spokesman said Khan held discussion with interim chairman Najam Sethi and accepted the role. “Former captain and wicket-keeper Khan will take over as chief selector while the rest of the members of the committee will remain the same,” he said.
He said the other members of the selection committee would continue to work under Moin until further orders. Former left-arm paceman Salim Jaffer, Test batsman Azhar Khan, Farrukh Zaman and Asif Baloch are the other selectors.
The former wicketkeeper-batsman, who played 69 Tests and 219 one-day internationals, said he saw his new assignment as a big challenge. “It is an honour and a privilege to be offered the position of chairman of national selection committee — a position held by many greats in the past and most recently by legendary spinner Qasim. Being chief selector in Pakistan cricket is a tough challenge for anyone because selection is not an easy job in a country where everyone is passionate about cricket,” he said.
Talking to the reporters, Moin indicated that he had been given the task of preparing for the 2015 World Cup and would be looking to form his own team of selectors.
“I have accepted this as a challenge and I am glad that PCB and my own vision correspond in terms of preparing a pool of talented cricketers who can mount an effective challenge in the 2015 World Cup.”
He also made it clear that he would work with the same sincerity as chief selector as he had served the national team. “The way I look at it some hard decisions will need to be taken but we have to all keep in mind that we need to have a strong squad for the coming World Cup,” he added.
