Swimming pool, an int’l facility: DG PSB

ISLAMABAD - The renovation work of outer swimming pool of Pakistan Sports Complex is in full swing as the laying down of tiles outside the pool is near to be completed while rest of the work will be completed in next couple of days. Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Syed Amir Hamza Gilani revealed this in an exclusive interview with The Nation on Wednesday and said: “The inner swimming pool renovation work is almost completed as only bathroom tiles remains to be installed, which will be completed before the end of this month.” Gilani said the roof and outside walls of the inner swimming pool had been completed and that too in a record time with at least 75 percent less cost. “We have invited bids and after completing all the formalities, the best contractor and consultant will be hired for the project.” “In the first phase, we have decided to overhaul the entire outer swimming pool completely, but on strong recommendations by the experts, it is now decided to lay down tiles on both sides of swimming pool. As the repair work is under progress so the contractor will be handed over the swimming pool on June 15. With up-gradation of this high-standard facility, the country can host international events here with utmost ease and comfort.” Gilani said the front walls of the three squash courts inside Roshan Khan Complex were also completed in a record time and the front walls of the complex were also renovated and handed over to the PSB.  “We have decided to install two synthetic courts on court No 1 and 2 and the order is placed to German firm. We are quite hopeful the consignment will reach Pakistan within next 15 to 20 days and will start work on the courts,” he said. “We have also decided to renovate two grass courts and install clay on them, as clay courts suit more to our players than the grass courts and are not only much cheaper but also easy to maintain for a longer period of time,” he asserted. To a query regarding delay in completion of work, Gilani put the entire burden on negative reporting in a section of press. “I have time and again requested that if I have committed anything wrong, then bring proofs. I am ready to present myself for punishment so instead of manipulating the actual facts, the real picture should be presented. We will soon invite media persons and show them all the development work and they will decide whether we are right or wrong.” “An inquiry was conducted against us by the Prime Minister inspection committee and the committee report clearly indicated not a single penny wrongdoing was found instead the report appreciated the PSB work,” he added.  “It is my request to all the concerned persons that do mention our mistakes. We will welcome positive criticism and try to remove our flaws if found nay but we also deserve appreciation for our good work as during my tenure as a DG, a lot of positive things have been done and we have provided maximum facilities to sporting fraternity,” Gilani concluded.
