Ibrar second sports organiser fell to assassins

KARACHI - When unknown gunmen killed Pakistan's thrice Olympian boxer Ibrar Hussain Shah in Quetta on Thursday, he became the second nationally recognised sports organiser to have fallen to death in that manner. Many years ago, Pakistans former golf international and general manager PIA Sports Hasan Musa was also shot dead by a gunman in the parking lot of the PIA Squash Complex on Kashmir Road. Ibrars traumatic death has shocked Pakistan's sports circles. Ibrar represented Pakistan in Los Angeles, Seoul and Barcelona Olympics. He was among a few top boxers that Pakistan had produced over last six decades. Born on February 9, 1965 at Quetta, he chose boxing as his favourite sports in which he excelled at continental level. He was a daring boxer. He won gold at XI Asian Games held at Beijing (China), 1990. Participated in three Olympic Games in 1984 (Los Angeles), 1988 (Seoul) and 1992 (Barcelona). He was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Civil) in 1990 and President Gold Medal in 1991. He also attended trainer Specialization Diploma in Merit of Coaching (Boxing) at Leipzig University(Germany) in 1994, Advance Boxing Coaching Course at Bangkok (Thailand) in 1994 and Olympic Solidarity Course in Boxing & Fitness Trainer B License, Euro Sports Organization at Halle (Germany) in 2002-2003. Asian Boxing Confederation has nominated him as member in Coaches Commission at Asian level in April, 2011. Syed Ibrar Hussain Shah was Director, PSB Coaching Centre, Quetta and Deputy Director of Pakistan Sports board when he was killed. Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Sports, Engg Shaukat Ullah, Syed Amir Hamza Gilani, Director General, Pakistan Sports Board, President of Pakistan Boxing Federation Doda Khan Bhutto, Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani, Governor of Balochistan Nawab Zulfikar Magsi, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif have also expressed their grief on the sad and sudden death of one of Pakistans legendary boxers. They prayed Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant the bereaved family courage to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude.
