LAHORE - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Saturday took some important decisions, which seems useless now after the restoration of Zaka Ashraf as PCB chairman, in its meeting, which is likely to be the last, held here at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Saturday under the chairmanship of Najam Sethi.
The meeting was attended by the MC members Shaharyar M Khan, M Ijaz Chaudhary, Naveed Akram Cheema and Shakil Shaikh and also by PCB officials Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmad, Chief Financial Officer Badar M Khan and Director Coordination Implementation and Media Amjad Hussain Bhatti attended while Legal Advisor PCB Taffazul Rizvi was a special invitee.
The committee was apprised that as per the terms of reference of the management committee, revisions in the PCB constitution were required to make it more democratic and representative. That process has been concluded with the submission of a draft constitution by two former judges of Supreme Court Justice (r) Fakir M Khokhar and Justice (r) Syed Jamshed Ali Shah. The draft constitution has been submitted now to the Federal government for vetting and approval.
Najam Sethi informed the management committee that he had written to the Ministry of IPC requesting that a date for the PCB elections may be announced as soon as the Federal government has vetted and the Patron/Prime Minister of Pakistan has approved it.
The committee also discussed amendments in the service rules with a view to bringing it in line with modern corporate best practices. It also approved the process of selection and appointment of selection committees, coaches and organising of training camps and also gave a direction to the chairman to initiate a process of bringing school, college and university cricket into the mainstream.
