Waqar asks Misbah to lead by example

LAHORE Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has said that the performance of new captain Misbahul Haq will be crucial in the series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Waqar, who had told the National Assemblys Standing Committee on Sports this week that he was not consulted by the PCB over the appointment of Misbah as Test captain, said Misbah was experienced enough to lead the national team. He said that Salman Butt had done a good job as Test captain on the recent tour to England. Salman will be missed in the coming series, the coach added. Waqar pointed out that Pakistan would have the benefit over South Africa as the conditions in the UAE were similar to those at home. That is an edge for us but South Africa are an experienced side and it will be a big challenge for our players, he added. Waqar said he had opted for a short conditioning camp because players had been playing a lot of cricket and he did not want them fatigued before the important series. Zaheer asks PCB to put its house in order Pakistans former Test captain Zaheer Abbas has said the International Cricket Councils decision to give Pakistan Cricket Board a 30-day deadline to take anti-corruption measures, was justified. Zaheer said the ICC had been forced to resort to such a move because of the PCBs refusal to take action on disciplinary issues. I dont think the ICC wants to damage Pakistan cricket. I believe they want to see us prosper and improve. But when this board refuses to listen to them or work with them then obviously they have no option but to give us deadlines, Zaheer was quoted as saying by PTI. He said PCB was solely responsible for the problems in Pakistan cricket. It is shameful that people who dont have basic knowledge of cricket or cricket administration are running cricket in Pakistan, he added. He pointed out that the ICC was forced to move and caution the PCB because of the way they handled the spot- fixing issue in England. I agree with Imran Khan that the PCB itself should have moved and taken action against the players accused of spot fixing and sent them home, he said. He also said he wanted to serve Pakistan cricket and was always available.
