Jr Davis Cup team off to Malaysia

ISLAMABAD - The 3-member Pakistan team along with non-playing captain Jaleel Khan will leave for Malaysia today (Wednesday) to participate in the Junior Davis Cup to be held from February 23-27.
Pakistan contingent consists of M Mudassar, Zaid Mujahid and M Muzammil. Talking to The Nation on Tuesday, coach Jaleel said: “I am more than satisfied with the preparations of my boys. Last time, we finished sixth, but I believe this time, we will climb more ladders and bring silverware to the country.” “It is our best available team and boys are in great shape. The camp was started from Feb 1 and the boys were trained in two sessions on daily basis.  The competition would be very tough but keeping in mind boys hard work and the way they had gone through tough mental and physical training, omens are very encouraging,” he added.
“Total 13 teams are divided into three groups and our chances are very bright to qualify from pre-qualifiers to main round of Junior Davis Cup. The main difference between our players and others is lack of international exposure,” Jaleel concluded.
Syed Kaleem Imam said: “We have been sending our players to all the important international events despite the fact that we are in acute shortage of funds. It is my request to Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and other national institutes and banks to come forward and lend a helping hand to the PTF in fulfilling our goals.”
