LAHORE - National Junior Ranking Tennis Tournament started here on Monday as six matches were decided in U-18 competition on the opening day here at Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) Academy Bagh-e-Jinnah.
The PLTA is organising the event in which boys’ u-10, u-12, u-14, u-18 and u-18 doubles and girls’ u-18 singles and doubles competitions are being played.
Out of 200 players belonging to various parts of the country, 150 have qualified for the main rounds of various age group competitions.
PLTA secretary Khawaja M Bakhsh inaugurated the week-long competition which aims at promoting tennis at junior level. The points earned from the tournament will help in establishing the national ranking of junior players.
No upset was recorded in the first round of the u-18 and all the players had easy sailing to the next round. Arham Atiq Khan beat Jibran 6-2,6-2, Ammad Imran beat Zaka Ullah 6-2,6-2,Abdal Haider beat Abdul Wahab 6-1,6-3, Aammad Amir beat Hamza Bin Atif 6-0,6-1 and Hashim Khan beat Hamza Ahmad 6-3,6-3.
The matches in various age groups will be played in morning and afternoon sessions today (Tuesday).
