ISLAMABAD Dr Nauman Niaz is set to become new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Pakistan Cricket Board, it learnt here on Friday.
A decision in this regard has been finalised and the new chairman Zaka Ashraf will announce his nomination after arrival from Dubai in a couple of days, a source confirmed on condition of anonymity.
Doctor Nauman Niaz will replace present COO Subhan Ahmed who will handed over Head of International Cricket post as he represented Pakistan on international forums many times, to lure international team to visit Pakistan in future, the source added.
The source further revealed that though there were many front runners for the post, the nod of approval was given to Dr Nauman Niaz, who is a doctor by profession and also writes articles in different newspapers.
The sources said that Dr Nauman Niaz was previously associated with the PCB and worked on different post in board and has also worked as media manager Pakistan Cricket Board in the past.
When this scribe contacted Dr Nauman Niaz to seek his confirmation regarding his appointment, he neither confirmed nor denied but confirmed that the PCB has contacted him and things will be clear soon after the return of Zaka Ashraf from Dubai.
Dr Nauman Niaz had written a book on Pakistan cricket history in 2005 under the title of 'The Fluctuating Fortunes and this book was by the then Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the book has 4768 pages with four volumes.
Dr Nauman had travelled with the Pakistan team as cricket analyst and his last assignment with the PCB was the Head of Analysis Wing.
