Hamza on top in KP Amateur Golf

OUR STAFF REPORTER PESHAWAR - International golfer and Pakistan No 1 Hamza Amin bewildered his fellow golfers with his eight under par 64 gross over 18 holes of the 54 holes 44th Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amateur Golf Championship that commenced here at 6666-yard PAF Golf Course on Friday. Hamza Amin recorded five consecutive birdies when he drove an excellent tee-shot in the early morning with little breezing atmosphere out there. Hamza recorded his birdies at holes no. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and hole no 9 by carding 30, six under par at the front nine, followed by 34, one under with birdies at holes 12, 13 and 18 besides a missing stroke at hole no 14. Young Hamza also got another prime and honor of breaking the 16-year old Amateur course record made by once Pakistan's leading golfer Dr Aimal Zaman of 65, seven under par. "I had two mistakes in my overall round on the opening day as I made a bogy at 14 besides missing a regulation on two occasions," a jubilant Hamza told media. The unmatched Hamza said that he was hopeful about the remaining two rounds and would try to keep the distance from the other fellow golfers. Hamza was followed by former Pakistan skipper Mehmood Aziz from KP with his gross score 74, two over par, with 38, two over at front nine and 36, par, at back nine with two birdies at holes no. 12 and 18 and a missed stroke at 1, 4 and 15 holes. Pakistan No 2 M Rehman of Royal Palm played an excellent front nine where he finished 34, two under with birdies at holes no. 1, 2 and 6 besides a missing stroke at hole no 3 but failed to keep on his excellent form in the back nine. Muhammad Rehman finished his back nine in 41, five over par, with double bogies at hole no 11 par-3 and single bogy at 12, 15, 16 and 17. Ghazanfar carded 75, 39, three over par at back and 36, par, at back nine with three birdies at holes no 2, 11 and 17 besides missing a stroke on hole no 1, 3, 6, 16 and 18. Rashidur Rehman (76), Inayat Ullah Yousaf (76), M Naeem (78), Ahmad Sarwar (78), Ardisher Kiani (79), Major Abid Raja (79), Major Shoaib Uddin (79) were the other leading scorer.
