LAHORE - The Sports Board Punjab (SBP) in collaboration with Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) has been organising preparatory camp for the national kabaddi team, which will feature in the 4-Nation Kabaddi Tournament in America in July this year.
The purpose of organising the camp, which commenced at Faisalabad on Saturday, is to prepare the national team for the Punjab International Sports Festival (PISF) phase-II to be held in September this year. Pakistan kabaddi head coach Ghulam Abbas Butt and Chaudhry M Hussain are supervising the camp.
Assistant Director Sports Board Punjab Waqas Akbar and Sarwar Butt visited the camp and inspected the arrangements on Saturday and also lauded the players for doing hard training and expressed their satisfaction over the arrangements of the training camp.
Pakistan’s top 25 kabaddi players including captain Babar Waseem Gujjar, Mohsin Naseer, Khalid Mehr, Ramzan Jani, Amir Ismaeel, Rashid Ismaeel and Lala Obaidullah are flexing their muscles at the training camp.
Waqas told the media that 12 teams would took part in the Punjab International Sports Festival Kabaddi Tournament. “The second phase of national kabbadi camp will be held in Lahore where the men in green will be prepared well for the mega event so that they may earn laurels for the country,” he added.
Talking to media, Director General SBP Usman Anwar said: “Our hectic efforts for the promotion of sports has started bearing fruits as now Pakistan team has been invited by different international kabaddi federations to take part in their events. We will continue this support to not only kabaddi but also to other sports as it is the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Mian M Shahbaz Sharif to promote sports and provide the youth opportunities to excel at international level. Now it can be proudly said that we have succeeded in accomplishing our dynamic leader’s vision and we will continue this noble cause.”
“The purpose of sending our kabaddi team to America to feature in the 4-Nation Kabaddi Tournament is to provide them opportunity to prepare them well for the Punjab International Sports Festival as we want them to win glory for the country in the mega international activity,” he concluded.
