LAHORE - Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)'s President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, MNA, has announced the prizes for three top teams and individuals for the ongoing 7th National U-16 Football Championship slated to conclude on July 29 at Punjab Football stadium, opposite FIFA Football House. In all, 11 prizes will be on the card with the introduction of awards for Assistant Referee during concluding ceremony. The champion of 15-team show will get Rs.50,000 whereas runner up team will walk away with Rs. 30,000 and the third-placed team will be awarded 20,000. The skippers of all top three teams will also grab trophies while the two officials and 18 players of top three teams will also get gold, silver and bronze medals. Faisal, who is going all out for the welfare of players, coaches, referees and administrators, provided new-look to individual prizes in order to strengthen the motivation of players, referees, and to improve all aspects of football. There will be no award for most valuable player (MVP) and instead Rs.5000 each will be presented best goal keeper, defender and midfielder. Leading marksman and most promising player will also receive same amount while newly-introduced awards for referee and assistant referee is also comprised of Rs.5000 each. In order to promote sportsmanship, the PFF had also decided to hand over cash prize of Rs.15,000 to winner of fair play trophy. "The generic concept of fair play is a fundamental part of the game. It represents the positive benefits of playing by the rules, using common sense and respecting fellow players, referees, opponents and fans," said Faisal who recently earned the honor of becoming Chairman of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Disciplinary Committee. It is first time in history of event that such handsome cash prize will be given to fair play trophy winner. Fair Play has a fundamental role in sport and there is a need to apply it to all sporting activities, especially PFF's age-limit events. The youngsters need strong values to grow up with, and football, The 15 participants in the currently-progressed event are Nushki's Baloch FC, PMC Club Athletico Faisalabad, Afghan Club (Chaman) and PFF League (Club Phase) 2008 semi-finalist Wohaib FC (Lahore). Four top teams of PFF Youth U16 Cup complete the frame with Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, NWFP, Northern Areas, FATA and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Punjab is the most successful team of U-16 soccer event. Khanewal's triumph in 2007 was Punjab's third triumph after 1993 (Lahore) and 2006 (Peshawar). Sindh were also victorious twice (1994, 2004) while Balochistan clinched the 2005 edition at Quetta.
