Mohsin criticises Pakistan T20 selection

KARACHI  - Former coach and selector Mohsin Khan believes Pakistan's squad for the World Twenty20 is lined with incorrect selection.
Pakistan were the first of the 12 teams for the September event to name their final 15-man touring party earlier this week, with wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal, all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and opening batsman Imran Nazir recalled.
Seamer Junaid Khan, spinner Abdur Rehman and batsman Ahmed Shehzad, meanwhile, were excluded.
"The selectors made a hasty selection for the major event," Mohsin said.
"The team was announced just to facilitate coach Dav Whatmore, who had to leave for holidays. "This shows the selection was a one-man show.
The feedback from the coach and captain is important but selectors should have the ultimate say.  Mohsin expressed particular displeasure at the omission of Junaid, whose fine form in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka brought him 14 wickets in three matches.
"It's very sad to see Junaid's snub as he was the only fast bowler who did well in Sri Lanka. He could have been a good addition as we are struggling in the fast-bowling department," added Mohsin. "Raza Hasan has just played one One Day International  and his selection over the experienced Rehman is shocking.
The decision to overlook Ahmed Shehzad over Imran Nazir is also not understandable."
Akmal has not played international cricket since last year's World Cup and was recently cleared by the Pakistan Cricket Board's integrity committee for his alleged involvement in 2010's spot-fixing scandal in England. "Kamran was the best choice after getting clearance from the integrity committee. Hopefully, he has improved his wicketkeeping," concluded Khan.
Pakistan have been pooled with New Zealand and Bangladesh in Group D and will start their campaign against the Black Caps on 23 September in Pallekele.
