LAHORE  - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dropped the idea to arrange a press conference for banned pacer, M Aamir in a bid to give him an opportunity to collectively apologise to the nation for his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal.
An official source in the board confirmed that the idea of having a press conference for Aamir was discussed in the board meeting but has now been dropped due to the stringent conditions governing the five-year ban imposed on the pacer by the ICC.
Aamir returned home few weeks back from London after serving a three-month jail sentence in a young offenders centre for his role in the spot-fixing scandal.  "Basically, the idea to hold a press conference was that it would allow Aamir the chance to collectively address the media and admit his guilt and apologise for his actions to the nation," the PCB source said.  "But since the conditions of the ICC ban clearly state that he can't use any facility of the Board nor can the home Board provide him any sort of assistance this idea was dropped to avoid another controversy," the source added.
The idea came about after Aamir went to meet with the Chairman and chief operating officer of the Board around a week ago.
