Spinners bring Pakistan back into the fray

Pakistan couldn't add much to their overnight score of day one and were all out for 299 at the start of day two. It was a somewhat below par score but Pakistani spinners bowled beautifully. Danish Kaneria was playing his first Test of the series while Saeed Ajmal was also there and both combined well to take eight out of the ten Sri Lankan wickets. There hasn't been a century from a Sri Lankan player so far in the series and the trend continued here as well. No Sri Lankan batsman managed to make a big impact on the innings as only Mahela Jayawardene managed 79 and tried to hold the innings together. Saeed Ajmal was the one who picked wickets early but Kaneria was in a different mood. Kaneria bamboozled Jayawardene with a flipper. Tillakaratne Dilshan came in at number eight due to an injury and played a valiant knock of 44 before being the last man out for 44 as Sri Lankans managed 233. Pakistan got a valuable lead of 66 on which they should try and capitalise big now. Pakistan ended the day at 16-1 giving them an overall lead of 82 runs with nine wickets in the shed. Throughout the series there have been quite a few batting collapses from Pakistan just when it mattered. However they should improve now. The conditions are still favourable for batsmen. Pakistan batsmen need to bat really well on day three now and try and set Sri Lanka something more than 300 to make things difficult for them in the fourth innings.
