Canadian star named most marketable athlete by Sports Pro

Canadian Tennis champion Eugenie Bouchard has been named the world's most marketable athlete, beating out a slew of her big-earning male contemporaries.

The 21-year-old is the first female to ever top the annual list by British magazine SportsPro, pushing past the likes of Brazilian footballer Neymar, pro-golfer Jordan Spieth, Five-time Olympic swimming medalist Missy Franklin and F1 racer Lewis Hamilton.

Neymar, 23, came in second place while Spieth, 21, the surprise Masters champion, came in third. It's a grand slam for Bouchard, considering the young star placed 13th on the same list last year, then-lead by Hamilton.

While her breakout year - making the semi-finals of the Australian and French Opens and the finals at Wimbledon - clearly bolstered her position, Bouchard's big drawcard is also her strong social media presence, according to experts.

SportsPro ranks athletes based on a variety of means, including age, value, charisma and sponsorship deals both inside and outside their country. The rankings are meant to reflect potential over the next three years and not just their current worth.
