ISLAMABAD – Pakistan have assured of the 19th Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship 2012 as defending champion Danish Atlas Khan and compatriot Ali Bokhari reached the final of the event at Kish Island, Iran.
Secretary Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Abdul Wahab Marwat while talking to The Nation on Friday said Ali played superbly in semi-final against Indian opponent Mahesh Mangaonkar and won the match in five games, which lasted for 113 minutes. Ali won the first game 11-9 but Mahesh fought back to take the second game 11-7. Ali managed to bounce back and took the third game 11-9. Mahesh once again showed his class and won the fourth game 12-10 to force the match into the decider which Ali won by 11-9 to seal the fate of the match.
Defending champion Danish makes light work of his opponent Ahmed Al Saraj of Jordon winning in four games. Danish won the first game 11-7, lost the second 12-14 but went on to win the next two games 11-6 and 11-7 to reach the final, the match lasted for 36 minutes. Another young talent Hammas A Tarar also reached the final of Under-13 category of the championship by beating Malaysian Jesse- Seerg- Foo 3-2 in five hard fought games 10-12, 11-2, 2-11, 11-9 and 14-12 to set up final date against Indian opponent Wazirani.
Pakistan’s girls’ performance was below par as all the three girls Sadia Gul, Riffat and Sammar Anjum lost their matches in opening rounds.
