LAHORE - The Pakistan cricket has been rocked with another controversy with their fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar being accused of ball-tampering during the last match of the ODI series in Rose Bowl, Southampton. The ball-tampering accusations come at a time when Pakistan cricket is reeling under the shocking allegations of spot-fixing. English newspaper Daily Mail carried images of Akhtar scratching the seam of the ball with his finger nails at the pretext of shining it. The pacer also at one point of time stood on the ball with his spiked boots. The Daily Mail reported that the pictures were taken during the 41st over of England's innings. Akhtar bowled his full quota of ten overs in the match and was virtually unplayable, taking three wickets while giving away only 30 runs. This is not the first time that Akhtar has been involved in ball-tampering. Shoaib Akhtar was caught scratching the surface of the ball in a One-dayer against the Kiwis in Sri Lanka in 2003. The pacer was banned for two one-day internationals and was also fined 75 percent of his match fee. The last time Pakistan cricket were under the shadows of ball-tampering, when Shahid Afridi had been banned for two T20s for biting the ball during an ODI match against Australia at the WACA in January 2010.
