Lavrova dies in a car crash

MOSCOW (AFP) Former Russian rhythmic gymnastics Olympic champion, Natalia Lavrova died Friday in a car crash, local media reported. Reports said that a car, which Lavrovas sister was driving, smashed into another vehicle on a rural road in the Penza region (700km southeast of Moscow). The circumstances of the car crash were being investigated. Lavrova, who won Olympic gold medals in rhythmic gymnastics in Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004, was working as a coach of the Dynamo club and Moscows Olympic gymnastics center.
