Tanveer proves fitness in Quaid Trophy match

ISLAMABAD Left arm pacer Sohail Tanveer proved his fitness after showing remarkable performance against Rawalpindi in the four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy cricket match at Pindi Cricket Rawalpindi on Saturday. Brilliant bowling (six for 41) by Sohail restricted Rawalpindi on a meager total of 115 runs in their first innings with the support of other fast bowler Rao Iftikhar (three for 17). Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) were 119 for two at the end of day-one. Imran Nazir (56) and Shahid Yousaf (55) were not out batsmen. Rizwan Akbar and Saddaf Hussain shared one wicket each for Rawalpindi. Jamal Anwar (29) and Sohail Nasir (26) were the main contributors for Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, a source told this scribe that a member of selection committee sought the information about the bowling of Sohail Tanveer. The representative of the Pakistan Cricket Board showed his satisfaction over the performance of local bowler Tanveer. It is pertinent to mention here that he (Sohail) was named for the Pakistan Test team for South Africa series with the fitness condition. The two Test tie will start from November 12, 2010. At Diamond Cricket ground, hosts Islamabad scored 240 runs against National Bank of Pakistan in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture in 83 overs game. Hammad Wasim (48 not out), Amer Khan (43) and Noman (34) were the top scorers respectively. Qasir Abbas got two wickets while Waseem Khan, Hammad Azam, Imran Javed, Mohammad Talah and Uzair-ul-Haq claimed one wicket each for the NBP. Qasir conceded 43 runs for his two wickets. Islamabad will resume their remaining innings on Sunday (today) at same venue.
