Rams outclass Leopards in practice match

RAWALPINDI - Rawalpindi Rams outclassed Islamabad Leopards by eight wickets in a friendly Twenty20 practice match here at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday. Awais Zia, from the Rams side, made a brilliant unbeaten ton. The match was organised in the preparations of the upcoming National Twenty20 Championship to be held in Karachi from September 25. Batting first, Leopards scored 143 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Afaq Rahim scored 44, Zohaib Ahmed 38 and Umair Khan 22. For Rawalpindi left-armed spinner Sami Ullah was the pick of the bowlers claiming three wickets by conceding 25 runs. Hammad Azam chipped in with two wickets and Rawalpindi captain Sohail Tanveer grabbed one wicket. Chasing a decent target, Rams hammered Islamabad bowlers as they achieved the required target in the 13th over. Awais Zia scored an unbeaten century (102) with the help of 16 fours and three towering sixes on just 46 balls, whereas Test discard Umer Amin made 22. Rao Iftikhar and Zohaib took one wicket each from Islamabad side. President Islamabad Cricket Association Shakeel Sheikh and Associate Secretary Rawalpindi Cricket Association Sajid Shah were also present on the occasion.
