Aqeel clinches Memorial Tennis title

ISLAMABAD - Top seed Aqeel Khan won the men's singles title of the 3rd Syed Tajamul Abbas Memorial Tennis Championship 2013 by beating Ahmed Chaudhry in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the final here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Saturday.
Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) minister Riaz Pirzada was the chief guest on the occasion while PTF patron Senator Dilawar Abbas, president Syed Kaleem Imam along with other dignitaries and a pack to capacity crowd was also present on the occasion.
Aqeel won the first set 6-1 by breaking second, fourth and sixth games of Ahmed, hitting number of winners down the line and cross court. He kept the same pressure in the second set and won 6-2 by breaking first and seventh game of Ahmed. Aqeel won the cash award Rs 40,000 along with trophy while Ahmed pocketed Rs 25,000 as runner-up.
M Mudassar annexed the boy's U-18 singles title as he eliminated his younger brother M Muzammil in thrilling three-set match. Mudassar won the first set 6-1 by breaking second, fourth and sixth games. Muzammil took the second set 6-4 by breaking ninth game with the help of some good passing shots. Mudassar won the final set 7-5 to win the final. Mudassar got cash award of Rs 12,000 along with shield whereas Muzammil got Rs 7,000 along with runner-up shield.
Top seed Sara Mansoor of Islamabad clinched the ladies singles title as she eliminated Alina Aftab of ZTBL 6-1, 6-0. She was in an excellent form and kept pressure on Alina throughout the match with his powerful forehand backhand drives. Sara got Rs 15,000 along with shield while Alina got Rs 10,000 and shield.
PTF president Syed Kaleem Imam requested the IPC minister for the financial support for uplift tennis in the country and requested to resolve the issue of two POAs on priority basis. The minister said assistance would be provided to the federation for the development of the tennis complex and he also promised to hold IPC Tennis Championship in collaboration with the PTF.
A special shield was presented to Syed Nofil Kaleem Imam for his outstanding achievements and being the Asian and Pakistan No 1 U-14 player.

Ladies singles final: Sara Mansoor beat Aline Aftab 6-1, 6-0
Boy's U-18 singles final: M Mudassar beat M Muzammil 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
