LAHORE - Pakistan magical spinner Saeed Ajmal has said though it would be tough to play against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka but they will try their best to win this series.
Speaking here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, Ajmal, who is famous for his ‘magical spin bowling’, said: “Though playing against Sri Lanka in Sri Lankan pitches will be a bit tough for us yet we will try our best to play our best cricket and keep ourselves high in the ICC Test rankings.”
Showing confidence in his bowling, Ajmal said: “I am not worried if batsmen can read my ‘doosra’ or if they got used to it or not. All I know is that I bowl these deliveries and get them out and I have confidence in my abilities regardless of who the opposition is.” To a query regarding Sri Lankan pitches support spinners, he replied: “I don't think wickets were supporting spinners in the last series versus Sri Lanka in the UAE. They were batting friendly tracks. On my last tour to Sri Lanka, I had 15 wickets which mean four wickets per match which is not bad. But there are always ups and downs in a career and I will try to perform better this time.”
When asked in the presence of Mahela and Sangakkara, wouldn’t be difficult for the green shirts to beat the Lankans, Ajmal said: “Both Mahela and Sangakkara are world class batsmen and very mature players but our team is also very balanced and we will try our best to beat them in their home grounds.” “Most Tests we play the wickets are flat and batting friendly but a bowler should not feel disappointed with this but just should play with positive mindset and perform for his team regardless of the wicket,” he added.
To a query regarding bowling out Sangakkara, who is his favorite player, he said: “Yes, Sangakkara is a world class player and my favorite batsman and he just crossed 1000 runs mark in this year. But on the cricket field, there are no favorites, he will try to do his best for his team and I will try to send him back to the pavilion as quickly as possible.” TO another query regarding creation of new delivery after ‘teesra’, Ajmal replied: “At the moment, no new delivery is coming and I will work with my current deliveries. I have to work more on other variations for now.”
