ISLAMABAD - Pakistan future tennis hope Samir Iftikhar has reached 103 rank of NCAA national singles and proved a great asset for University of New Mexico (UNM) Lobos winning crucial matches at No 1 position.
Talking exclusively to this scribe, former Davis Cupper Tayyab Iftikhar, who is father and coach of Samir Iftikhar, said: “I am very proud of my son’s progress so far. He is playing quality tennis for his university and he cab prove an asset for the country if given chances in the Davis Cup and other international events.”
Tayyab said: “Samir has done wonders for his university as he won the opening singles match against Pacific Tigers and helped his university register a narrow 4-3 victory against their opponents. Samir at No 1 singles pushed the lead to 3-2 for the Lobos after his convincing win with a score of 6-3, 6-1.”
The Lobos will travel to Boise for their match against conference opponent Boise State today (Monday). It will mark the first conference match for the Lobos this season. “The wonderful performances of Samir, I hope, will catch the eyes of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) and they will try to get sponsorship from for him,” Tayyab concluded.
