Ilham clinches Junior Tennis double titles

ISLAMABAD-Top seed Ilham Khan clinched the 1st Gun & Country Junior Tennis Championship U-18 singles title after thrashing Musa Chaudhry in the final played here on Tuesday.

Ilham outclassed Musa, younger brother of Davis Cupper Ahmed Chuadhry, in straight sets, winning it 6-1, 6-0 in just 35 minutes. Ilham was in awesome form and won the first after breaking Musa’s first serve, he just got relaxed which allowed Musa to break Ilham’s serve to square the things at 1-1. But it was all that Musa could get from the entire final, as Ilham went onto win next five games in a row to take the first set 6-1. He was at his peak in the second set, winning it without conceding a single game 6-0.

Ilham Khan pairing with Musa Chaudhary also clinched the junior doubles title by beating Sami Zen/Subhan Bin Salik 6-3, 6-4 in a well-contested final. Subhan Bin Salik annexed the boys’ singles U-14 title by beating Syed M Ahmed 6-0, 6-1 in the final. Subhan was in excellent touch and won the first set 6-0 and he kept the same pressure in the second set, winning it 6-1. Mahin Aftab won the girls U-18 title by crushing Nawal Imtiaz 6-0, 6-0. Gun & Country Club secretary Ather Rauf Bhatti graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed medals and certificates among the winners. Former Davis Cupper and recipient of ‘Pride of Performance’ Hameed-ul-Haq also distributed medals and certificates among the top performers. He also thanked tournament director Raja Nauman Afzaal for providing excellent facilities for the success of event.
